Perpetual Awards

Northvale Netball Club recognises the achievements of teams, individual players and club members each year through presentation events. Our end of year club presentation night is a highly anticipated event that enables all club members and families to get together to celebrate our club’s achievements. At Northvale we are extremely proud, not only of all our players who represent us each week, but of those who also go on to further achievement through the netball pathway, including playing at representative level and achieving umpiring or coaching accreditations.

In memory of Life Member, Bob Cousins who passed away in January 2007, the Bob Cousins Memorial Award was created. Bob was a dedicated member of our club for many years since its early days. He coached for many of those years, mainly concentrating on juniors. This award is presented to a 15 & under player for the development of their netball skills. Total Value: $100

Lisa O’Hara Memorial Award

Presented to an Open player who is committed to the game and the club, has shown improvement throughout the year, and supports her coach and her team. It is in memory of Lisa O’Hara, an open player who passed away in early 2013 due to cancer. Lisa started playing at Northvale in 2003, playing 185 games for Northvale. In April 2011 Lisa was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma, a very rare disease with only 3 or 4 people in Australia having it. The disease spread quickly through her body, resulting in over 100 tumours in her lungs. Lisa was a fit and athletic person, was a personal trainer and model, and shared our love for the game of netball. In her final stages of life she embarked on a new career as a motivational speaker. Many of her netball colleagues attended her speeches, and she made us all sit back and reflect on what is important in our lives, and to live life to the fullest, being happy. Her motto was “Love Life”. In Lisa’s honour, a new award was created for the Most Valuable Player in the open age group.

2024 Recipient: Teresa Kos

Sue Dean Family Award

Presented to a Family who shows commitment to Northvale Netball Club. The award is presented in honour of Sue Dean, a dear friend of Northvale who passed away in 2017. Sue started playing for Northvale in 1984 and played in over 750 games in the red and white. She coached for many years and also contributed on the committee. Sue’s daughter, Ella now plays and has achieved over 200 games. For all those that knew Sue, the first thing you would always think of was her love of family, and so in her honour, the Northvale Family Award was created. It is presented in Sue’s honour each year, to ensure the memory and her love of both Northvale and family will live on and always be remembered.

2024 Recipient: Warren Family

Sandra Gunther Spirit Award

In June 2022, the Executive Committee was privileged to announce the creation of a new perpetual award – the Sandra Gunther Spirit Award. This award will be presented yearly to a club person who embodies the best of us – in their generosity of spirit and their contribution to the health and growth of our club. They exhibit a strong sense of community and outstanding dedication, unwavering in their support. Their passion, positivity and commitment exemplify what it means to be a member of the Northvale Netball Club.
